“Catching Clouds” is a musical exploration of those rare, exhilarating moments in life that feel almost too good to be true.
The music depicts the poem I wrote called “I Caught A Cloud”.
Throughout the piece, swirls of flying on a cloud are depicted in the rolling melody passed among instruments as well as diving scales within the strings.
The middle section turns contemplative to signal the “thinning” of the clouds as evening approaches. The music eventually returns to the main theme, reflecting the realization that while we cannot stay in the heights forever, the memory of the joyful experience remains a permanent gift.

“Here, In Time” is a tender, deeply moving work for piano and strings that serves as both a lullaby and a tribute to the innocence of childhood.
This song began as a simple piano tune that my five-year-old son came to love, often dancing alone in the living room while cradling his favorite stuffed animal, Skittles. Years later, after my son had grown and moved out, finding that same stuffed animal inspired me to add lyrics conveying the unending bond between parent and child: “I am always yours and you are mine.”
The piece offers a lush, emotional narrative where the piano and strings trade delicate melodies, building from a quiet, reflective opening into a triumphant, full-hearted climax. It is a perfect selection for recitals, spring concerts, or programs themed around family, childhood, nostalgia, and love. The piece makes a nice alternative to Pachelbel’s Canon in D for wedding processionals.

“On My Way” is an optimistic, cinematic intermediate composition for piano quartet (violin, viola or violin, and cello) is available entirely for free for non-profit use.
This is a propulsive, lyrical work that captures the spirit of a journey. Evoking the feel of a “movie montage,” the piece follows a protagonist starting out with an optimistic outlook and arriving safely at their destination. Originally composed as a solo piano piece, the addition of the string trio adds significant dimension and emotional depth to the arrangement.
Though appropriate for any recital or concert, its driving energy makes it an excellent choice for graduation ceremonies, “send-off” events, or programs themed around travel and new beginnings.

“Red Bike, Blue Sky” is an energetic, cinematic work for piano and strings that captures the boundless optimism of mid-century Americana. Driven by a persistent pulse of 16th notes in the piano that mirrors the mechanical whir of a bicycle in motion, it conveys a story of a ten-year-old boy and his loyal terrier setting off on a summer neighborhood adventure.
The piano provides a constant rhythmic engine while the strings carry flowing lyrical phrases and supportive harmonies. It is a perfect selection for recitals, spring concerts, or programs themed around youth, adventure, and Americana.

“River Crossing” is a high-energy, cinematic work for piano and strings that serves as a musical tribute to the pioneers of the Oregon Trail. Inspired by the composer’s own move from Ohio to Portland over 20 years ago, the piece captures the dual sense of adventure and the profound uncertainty of leaving everything behind.
The “crossing” of the title refers to endless rivers crossed on the Oregon Trail, but also about the metaphorical “point of no return” — the moment one overcomes a significant obstacle and steps into a new life.
